Supporting children with their communication and language development at the foundation stage, both to express themselves and to communicate with others, is a vital aspect of the practitioner's role. Prime Time Communication and Language is designed to provide early years professionals and students with a practical and accessible resource to ensuring that Communication and Language is central to children's development. Combining theory with best practice, this book will help early years professionals gain fundamental knowledge of how children develop their language and communication skills at this prime time of life. The book is divided into three main sections: What is Communication and Language and why it is 'important' (Underpinning knowledge), The role of the adult; Get interactive! (Practical ideas). Practitioners will then be able to embed their expertise on developing these essential skills into their everyday practice. Practitioners will be able to follow a comprehensive and structured 6-week programme for 0-5 year olds; this provides a wealth of practical and engaging ideas for developing children s attention, listening, understanding, talking and social communication skills. It also explores how to work in partnership with parents and children with EAL, to ensure positive outcomes. An audit is also included with opportunities for observation and assessment.
